What is Womb & Fertility Massage?

‘Heal the Womb, Heal the Woman’ – Clare Spink, Founder of Womb and Fertility Massage.

This work supports the feminine path, from menarche to menopause (& beyond), all the different womb seasons and experiences along the way. It is for women with and without wombs, with and without menstruation.

This work serves to support: painful or irregular periods, premenstrual issues, digestive issues, menstrual lower back pain, preparation for pregnancy, support for fertility issues, healing from pregnancy release (termination, miscarriage and birth), support for emotional trauma, connection to feminine energies, a reclamation of self - to name a few, the list of benefits feels endless.

In brief, an appointment might typically involve warming massage to the sacral area, the digestive system and wombspace (an external and non-invasive modality) alongside pulsing, known as the tai chi of massage, and rebozo wrapping (a Mexican shawl used to swaddle the three energetic points of the body relating to the womb) this work offers opportunity to allow for a much deeper, energetic release than a more regular style of massage. It’s beautiful and it’s powerful. There is so much more to this work than I can write about, many avenues and different opportunities for focus with this work.

Womb Healing (this isnt new age!)

Massage is a well-recognised ancient form of healing dating back 5,000 years to Egyptians times.  Egyptians were known to massage the womb in an act of healing and in Norse traditions there are tales of Goddesses rubbing their bellies to boost fertility. There was once a time when women would go to bleed in the Red Tents and gather together to hold lunar cycle ceremony, womb massage would be performed and passed down from mother to daughter. In our modern world we have moved away from this inherent connection to self through the womb and menstrual cycle, this work is an opportunity to come back into connection, a reclamation of self.

Today, we know that the reproductive system is the only dispensable system in the body. It can choose to shut down if the body is not functioning as it should, to save impinging on the wider body’s health.  In order to restore health to this vital area all aspects of a persons well-being should be addressed; physically, emotionally and spiritually.

 What can I expect:

The Massage is a blend of Pulsing, Rebozo and Womb Massage.

Pulsing is known as the Tai Chi of massage and is designed to release emotional trauma and the dissolution of body armour. Rocking the body at approximately 120-160 beats per minutes simulates the heartbeat within the womb and creates a relaxed and calming state.

Rebozo is the name of the Mexican shawl used, traditionally rebozo wrapping was offered to postpartum women as part of the 40 day healing process. Today, we appreciate and acknowledge the sanctuary this kind of wrapping offers and we use it as the ceremonial essence of this work. Wrapping, (like a new-born baby is swaddled) three vital energetic centres; the head, the feet and the womb to create a cocoon type space, with a gentle rocking-in-a-hammock type effect, we begin to feel our edges and call all parts of ourselves back. When women have experienced trauma and have disassociated with parts of the body, this wrapping can support a woman to feel grounded, centred, safe and held. Guided visualisation are sometimes used during this time. The release of the rebozo can offer opportunity to re-emerge, with bigger wings and ready to step into our power.

Womb Massage

To enhance optimal health and wellbeing this massage includes massaging all three areas within the torso: Digestive, Reproductive and the Sacral area.

·      Abdomen – our pelvic floor, abdominal organs and connective tissue all share the same neural pathways therefore issues with one of these areas could affect another, for example digestive issues can cause lower back aches. Massaging all three areas involved in fertility and reproduction will aid wellbeing.

·      Ligaments here connect to both the sacrum and the uterus, if there is a misalignment in one it could misalign the other. Misalignment could impinge on circulation and reduce flow of blood, nutrients and oxygen to the abdominal cavity.

Did you know…

All the eggs a woman will ever carry form in her ovaries while she is a four-month-old fetus in the womb of her mother. This means our cellular life as an egg begins in the womb of our grandmother. Each of us spent five months in our grandmother's womb and she in turn formed within the womb of her grandmother.
